okay just in case you guys still dun know what to study for campcraft test..i've got some notes or whatever you call them..hahah
they are not very detailed coz you guys should have alr studied you notes and should have alr researched and revised them....i hope..:)
CAMPCRAFT
Materials of ropes
-Natural Fibre->rot easily under harsh sun and wet conditions/limited strength
-Synthetic fibre->less likely to rot as it does not absorb water and waterproof/stronger and lighter compared to natural fibre
-metal wires
types of ropes
laid rope->3 or more strands twisted together
braided rope->3 or more separate strands interwoven together(diagonally overlapping)
maintanence
-rope must not remain in the same postition for a long period of time
-rope must be clean and dry before storage
-rope sould be stored in a well-ventilated room
-rope should be kept away from ultra-violet rays and sunlight as far as possible
-rope must be kept from chemical contamination
common terms
-working end->end of the rope used to tie a knot
-standing end->inactive end of the rope
-loop->rope formed into a circle
-overhand loop->loop made when the working end is over the standing end
-underhand loop->loop made when the standing end is over the working end
-bight->the enclosed area formed by a loop
-turn->the rope that passes only one side of an object
-roundturn->the rope that circles an object one and a half rounds.
THUMB KNOT
-stopper knot
-used to prevent ends of rope from fraying
-hard to untie
-easy to tie
-used for climbing and for tying shoelaces
FIGURE-OF-EIGHT
-stopper knot
-used to prevent ends of rope from fraying
-easier to untie than thumb knot
-more secure than thumbknot as there is more friction
-used in rock climbing/sailing
